The Application process

IAE is delighted to assist Danish students to find unpaid work experience placements in Brisbane, Queensland, where the work placement is a compulsory requirement of a course in which the student is enrolled.

A Service Fee of $800.- applies. This is usually paid by the Danish institution in which the student is enrolled.

There are a number of steps you need to go through to come to Australia for work placement, on an Occupational Trainee Visa.

Step 1. You Forward your details - IN ENGLISH - to IAE

Please fill in the Work Experience Form and your CV and return them to us. You need Acrobat Reader to view these documents. You may download a free Acrobat PDF-reader from here.

a) IAE's Work Experience Placements in Queensland Form.
This form contains information we need to send to the Department of Immigration in order to get your Occupational Trainee Training Program approved by the office in Brisbane. If you will be accompanied by any family members, be sure to inform IAE of their names and dates of birth.

b) A Detailed CV or Resume.
You should ensure that you give as much detail as possible about what you are seeking from the placement. This CV will be sent to prospective employers, so please keep that in mind when you write it. If you are not confident with your English, get someone to check the spelling and grammar. You want to present yourself in the best possible light.

Step 2. IAE finds a Suitable Placement

IAE sends you CV to a number of prospective "employers"/programs to see if they will accept you. When IAE has a response, we contact you to let you know more about the programs and your options. IAE may be able to put you in contact with Danish students who have been in the placement before you so that you can contact them for further details.

Step 3. You Accept a Placement

You then decide which placement offered you prefer, and inform IAE of your decision. This may take a number of Emails back and forth as you clarify issues.

Step 4. IAE Finalises Paperwork for Approval of Training Program

IAE prepares the required forms and letters and has the employers sign them off. IAE collects the supporting documentation required by the Department of Immigration and lodges everything with the Form 913 - Application for Occupational Trainee Visa with the Immigration Department in Brisbane

Step 5. Approval of Training Program

IAE informs you when the training program has been approved, and faxes you a copy of the approval letter with your program's approval number. You need this number and letter when you apply for the Occupational Trainee Visa. (Don't send anything to the Embassy before you have this number.)

Step 6 - IAE Send You an Orientation Pack

IAE will send an orientation pack with you more details on your placement, useful information on living in Brisbane, and hints for enjoying your work placement; as well as the Letters of Invitation and original Approval Letter which you need to apply for your visa.

Step 7. You Apply for the Occupational Trainee Visa

You contact the Australian Embassy asking them for the forms required to allow you to apply for an Occupational Trainee Visa. You follow their instructions, and complete your criminal check, medical examination etc; and collect any documentation they require, including the approval letter IAE has faxed you, showing your program approval number. Ensure your application is complete and send it to the Australian Embassy, with the visa application fee.

Step 8. You Inform IAE of Visa Approval and if You Require On-Arrival Services

Please let IAE know when your visa is approved. IAE offers international students airport reception and accommodation placement services. An additional service fee applies. You should contact IAE if you would like to pay the additional fee and avail yourself of these services.

Step 9. You Arrive in Brisbane and Make Contact With IAE and Your Workplace

When you arrive, please ensure that you contact IAE and your workplace to inform them of when you will take up your placement.

Step 10. During Your Placement - Keep in Touch With IAE

IAE is your back-up in Brisbane. If you have problems in your placement which you cannot solve with them directly, please do not hesitate to contact us. If everything breaks down, we can find you another placement.
