Riborg Andersen, Manager of IAE
Study in Australia, received Queensland
Government Award for Excellence
& Achievement, 8/3/1999
The
Team serving you
Riborg
Andersen migrated
to Australia in the mid-1950’s from
Denmark, as daughter of an award-winning
Danish cheese maker, the 6th of 8
children.
She was educated in various government
schools in New South Wales and Queensland,
before winning a scholarship to study
at The University of Queensland. In
1976 she graduated with a B. Arts
(Geography, History) and a Diploma
in Education, and went to teach in
a Townsville high school, as part
of her “country service”. Most of
her teaching career was spent at The
Gap S.H.S., Brisbane.
During
her 13 years teaching in Queensland
secondary schools, she completed a
Diploma in Resource Teaching (QUT)
and a B. Educational Studies (UQ).
Given her background and interest
in students with special needs – be
it learning difficulties, gifted and
talented or people from non-English
speaking backgrounds – it seemed natural
that Riborg would move into the area
of International Education.
In
1985 Riborg went to China to travel,
but ened up teaching English to postgraduate
students for 2.5 years, something
she describes as “the best and worst
time of her life”. The Beijing student
uprisings of June 1989 saw Riborg
return to Queensland to take up a
position with TAFE, as Admissions
Officer, of their newly opened TAFE
Queensland International Office. Her
promotion to Marketing Manager, saw
her travelling the world to recruit
international students for Queensland’s
TAFE institutes – a position she held
until 1996, when she took leave. During
her leave she had two “babies” – one
a beautiful daughter, Anja, now 9
years; and the other a company IAE
Study in Australia Pty Ltd, which
soon became market leader bringing
international students in to study
in Australia, placing and supporting
200-500 international students per
year, and employing multi-cultural
staff of professional educators as
consultants.
In
2006, Riborg was offered an opportunity
to rejoin TAFE on a one year contract
to build the International Program
of Sunshine Coast TAFE. During that
time she was able to make significant
contributions laying the basis for
strong growth in the numbers of International
Students coming to the Sunshine Coast.
February
2007 saw Riborg return to her company
IAE Study in Australia, with renewed
enthusiasm, and a new business strategy,
aimed at enhancing her work-life balance.
This year Riborg plans to develop
strong partnerships in China and India,
while continuing to develop the UK,
Danish and wider European international
student markets. It is expected that
the Sunshine Coast will be a major
beneficiary of Riborg’s work, with
her love of the area an enthusiasm
for the education and training opportunities
here being absolutely infectious!
Jorn
Christoffersen
migrated
from Denmark in 1994, after a long
and distinguished career in sales
and marketing with the country's leading
agricultural machinery distributors.
Since 1996 he has developed a thorough
working knowledge of the international
education and training industry, and
has lead IAE marketing missions to
Denmark, Sweden, Korea and China.
Jorn and Riborg lead a dedicated team
of education counsellng professionals.
Amber
Davis

team as an Education Consultant and
is very excited to be able to help International
students gain access to the excellent
educational programs available in Australia.
Amber has extensive experience within
the field of education and has worked
in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions.
She has studied at a variety of Australian
Universities and has completed a Bachelor
Arts, majoring in Sociology and Communication
Studies and a Certificate IV in Business
(Travel and Tourism). This experience
and knowledge gives her the skills to
successfully guide and support International
students towards achieving their educational
and career aspirations.
Amber understands the challenges of
studying while balancing family and
work commitments and is looking forward
to continuing to provide pathways for
International students in their quest
for a satisfying and financially secure
future.
Kim
Challender
was born into a family of teachers.
Education has always been a passion
for her family. An excellent student,
she was awarded a government scholarship
and undertook a Bachelor of Science
(Chemistry) and Diploma of Education
from University of New England. Upon
graduation she followed her family
tradition, teaching Chemistry and
Biology in a rural NSW secondary school,
before heading for Asia.
She credits her experience of teaching
in Asia, as giving her an international
perspective of life.
Evidence of her outstanding teaching
skills is seen in Kim's record teaching
Science and Maths in prestigious International
schools in Singapore and Hong Kong
for 10 years. While living overseas
she travelled widely. Her time in
Asia gave Kim a greater appreciation
of cultural differences, along with
a deep understanding of the common
values which bind people regardless
of their background. Kim is interested
in languages, having dabbled in Mandarin
Chinese and Bahasa Indonesian, and
is currently learning Hindi.
After
many years abroad, she returned to
Montville, where IAE Study in Australia
was delighted when she accepted a
position as Education Consultant.
Kim is keen to use her international
understanding and strong background
in international education to assist
international students to find the
most suitable programs to meet their
background, Budget and aims.
As a former teacher of international
students, Kim understands the needs
of students leaving home to live in
a new country of surprise and intrigue,
and is keen to provide the necessary
support to make their experience a
very positive one.
